Fall Weekend Fun

What a full weekend.

It just so happened that all of our fall outings fell on the last three days so we just going and going. Luckily, kids are like energizer bunnies who also keep going and going (and eventually, crashing).

The weekend started off with our town’s annual Harvest Festival. It was canceled last year so we were all stoked to hear that it was back! It included crafts, costume parades, and lots of stalls that sold homemade goods. My mom bought Ivy a dress for Christmas.

That same afternoon, we headed up to Oak Glen, where a ton of apple orchards are located, to pick the season’s last apples before they shed for the rest of the year. And wow, with the foliage glowing in all sorts of autumnal hues, it felt like we were transported to New England. Who knew Connecticut was just an hour away?

On Sunday morning, we went to the Cal Poly Pomona Pumpkin Festival, which included just as you would suspect, many pumpkins, huge ice cream bars, corn mazes, a petting zoo, farm tractor rides—the best of what fall festivals offer.

There was so much joy in the air, especially after what we’ve all been through the last year and a half. It was as if everybody was emerging with renewed energy and a greater appreciation for these kinds of festivities we all took for granted in the past.

Plus, it’s fun to lean into the seasons. Life can move so fast and especially with the pandemic, one day doesn’t seem to differ much from the next. So marking each season with celebration helps to keep our lives continually fresh.

And most excitingly, I received my copy of Moms Don’t Have Time to Have Kids, an anthology with 52 essays about what moms don’t have time for. But make time for this! I was so honored to be one of the contributing authors, many of whom are much more impressive than me, like NYT bestselling authors! It’s available for pre-sale and will be released on November 2nd.

James and I were so pooped by Sunday night that we were desperate for the kids to occupy themselves. By a lucky turn of events, my daughter pulled out an old book of stickers we had yet to use, which involved placing construction vehicles on pre-set backgrounds. That kept them busy for almost an hour! Thank the lord!

Have a lovely week everyone!
